Limbs 4 Life – an overview of the organisation and what it does
Limbs 4 Life is a non-profit organisation established to provide information and support to amputees, their families and primary caregivers. In Australia a limb is amputated every 3 hours as a result of diabetes placing exceptional demand on the services Limbs 4 Life provides.
Appointed to the newly established role of Program Manager, Dorothy is responsible for the research and development of the Carers, Children and Youth Program; which extends the organisation’s capacity to provide support to parents and families of children born with congenital limb deficiencies.
Dorothy was born with a congenital limb deficiency and underwent an above knee amputation at the age of 14. She has a first-hand experience of growing up with an amputation adding her experience to the passion she brings to this current role. Dorothy is currently studying her Psychology/Sociology Degree.
It is the organisation’s philosophy that no individual goes through the process of limb loss alone.
